2025-09-19wifi: mac80211: correctly initialise S1G chandef for STALachlan Hodges1-2/+4
When moving to the APs channel, ensure we correctly initialise the chandef and perform the required validation. Additionally, if the AP is beaconing on a 2MHz primary, calculate the 2MHz primary center frequency by extracting the sibling 1MHz primary and averaging the frequencies to find the 2MHz primary center frequency. 2025-09-19wifi: mac80211: Support Tx of action frame for NANIlan Peer1-0/+5
Add support for sending management frame over a NAN Device interface: - Declare support for the supported management frames types. - Since action frame transmissions over a NAN Device interface do not necessarily require a channel configuration, e.g., they can be transmitted during DW, modify the Tx path to avoid accessing channel information for NAN Device interface. - In addition modify the points in the Tx path logic to account for cases that a band is not specified in the Tx information. 2025-08-26wifi: mac80211: increase scan_ies_len for S1GLachlan Hodges1-1/+6
Currently the S1G capability element is not taken into account for the scan_ies_len, which leads to a buffer length validation failure in ieee80211_prep_hw_scan() and subsequent WARN in __ieee80211_start_scan(). This prevents hw scanning from functioning. To fix ensure we accommodate for the S1G capability length. 2025-07-23wifi: mac80211: fix WARN_ON for monitor mode on some devicesJohannes Berg1-1/+12
On devices without WANT_MONITOR_VIF (and probably without channel context support) we get a WARN_ON for changing the per-link setting of a monitor interface. Since we already skip AP_VLAN interfaces and MONITOR with WANT_MONITOR_VIF and/or NO_VIRTUAL_MONITOR should update the settings, catch this in the link change code instead of the warning. 2025-07-18wifi: cfg80211/mac80211: remove wrong scan request n_channelsJohannes Berg1-1/+0
This (partially) reverts commits - 838c7b8f1f27 ("wifi: nl80211: Avoid address calculations via out of bounds array indexing") - f1d3334d604c ("wifi: cfg80211: sme: init n_channels before channels[] access") - 82bbe02b2500 ("wifi: mac80211: Set n_channels after allocating struct cfg80211_scan_request") These commits all set the structure to be in an inconsistent state, setting n_channels to some value before them actually being filled in. That's fine for what the code does now, but with the removal of __counted_by() in 444020f4bf06 ("wifi: cfg80211: remove scan request n_channels counted_by") it's no longer needed and it does leave a bit of a landmine there since breaking out of some code to send the scan or something would leave it wrong. Remove the now superfluous n_channels settings. 2025-06-24wifi: cfg80211/mac80211: Add support to get radio indexRoopni Devanathan1-4/+5
Currently, per-radio attributes are set on per-phy basis, i.e., all the radios present in a wiphy will take attributes values sent from user. But each radio in a wiphy can get different values from userspace based on its requirement. To extend support to set per-radio attributes, add support to get radio index from userspace. Add an NL attribute - NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RADIO_INDEX, to get user specified radio index for which attributes should be changed. Pass this to individual drivers, so that the drivers can use this radio index to change per-radio attributes when necessary. Currently, per-radio attributes identified are: NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_TX_POWER_LEVEL NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_ANTENNA_TX NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_ANTENNA_RX NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RETRY_SHORT NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RETRY_LONG NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_FRAG_THRESHOLD NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RTS_THRESHOLD NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_COVERAGE_CLASS NL80211_ATTR_TXQ_LIMIT NL80211_ATTR_TXQ_MEMORY_LIMIT NL80211_ATTR_TXQ_QUANTUM By default, the radio index is set to -1. This means the attribute should be treated as a global configuration. If the user has not specified any index, then the radio index passed to individual drivers would be -1. This would indicate that the attribute applies to all radios in that wiphy. This flag is annoying because it puts a lot of logic into mac80211 that could just as well be in the driver (only iwlmvm uses it) and the implementation is also broken for MLO. Remove the flag in favour of calling drv_mgd_prepare_tx() without any conditions even for the deauth-while-assoc case. The drivers that implement it can take the appropriate actions, which for the only user of DEAUTH_NEED_MGD_TX_PREP (iwlmvm) is a bit more tricky than the implementation in mac80211 is anyway, and all others have no need and can just exit if info->was_assoc is set. 2024-02-08wifi: mac80211: introduce 'channel request'Johannes Berg1-1/+1
For channel contexts, mac80211 currently uses the cfg80211 chandef struct (control channel, center freq(s), width) to define towards drivers and internally how these behave. In fact, there are _two_ such structs used, where the min_def can reduce bandwidth according to the stations connected. Unfortunately, with EHT this is longer be sufficient, at least not for all hardware. EHT requires that non-AP STAs that are connected to an AP with a lower bandwidth than it (the AP) advertises (e.g. 160 MHz STA connected to 320 MHz AP) still be able to receive downlink OFDMA and respond to trigger frames for uplink OFDMA that specify the position and bandwidth for the non-AP STA relative to the channel the AP is using. Therefore, they need to be aware of this, and at least for some hardware (e.g. Intel) this awareness is in the hardware. As a result, use of the "same" channel may need to be split over two channel contexts where they differ by the AP being used. As a first step, introduce a concept of a channel request ('chanreq') for each interface, to control the context it requests. This step does nothing but reorganise the code, so that later the AP's chandef can be added to the request in order to handle the EHT case described above. 2024-02-08wifi: mac80211: simplify non-chanctx driversJohannes Berg1-35/+170
There are still surprisingly many non-chanctx drivers, but in mac80211 that code is a bit awkward. Simplify this by having those drivers assign 'emulated' ops, so that the mac80211 code can be more unified between non-chanctx/chanctx drivers. This cuts the number of places caring about it by about 15, which are scattered across - now they're fewer and no longer in the channel context handling. 2024-01-26wifi: mac80211: add support for SPP A-MSDUsJohannes Berg1-1/+4
If software crypto is used, simply add support for SPP A-MSDUs (and use it whenever enabled as required by the cfg80211 API). If hardware crypto is used, leave it up to the driver to set the NL80211_EXT_FEATURE_SPP_AMSDU_SUPPORT flag and then check sta->spp_amsdu or the IEEE80211_KEY_FLAG_SPP_AMSDU key flag. 2024-01-26wifi: mac80211: process and save negotiated TID to Link mapping requestAyala Beker1-1/+2
An MLD may send TID-to-Link mapping request frame to negotiate TID to link mapping with a peer MLD. Support handling negotiated TID-to-Link mapping request frame by parsing the frame, asking the driver whether it supports the received mapping or not, and sending a TID-to-Link mapping response to the AP MLD. Theoretically, links that became inactive due to the received TID-to-Link mapping request, can be selected to be activated but this would require tearing down the negotiated TID-to-Link mapping, which is still not supported. 2023-12-12wifi: mac80211: Add support for WBRF featuresEvan Quan1-0/+2
To support the WBRF mechanism, Wifi adapters utilized in the system must register the frequencies in use (or unregister those frequencies no longer used) via the dedicated calls. So that, other drivers responding to the frequencies can take proper actions to mitigate possible interference. 2023-10-23wifi: mac80211: rename ieee80211_tx_status() to ieee80211_tx_status_skb()Kalle Valo1-1/+1
make htmldocs warns: Documentation/driver-api/80211/mac80211:109: ./include/net/mac80211.h:5170: WARNING: Duplicate C declaration, also defined at mac80211:1117. Declaration is '.. c:function:: void ieee80211_tx_status (struct ieee80211_hw *hw, struct sk_buff *skb)'. This is because there's a function named ieee80211_tx_status() and a struct named ieee80211_tx_status. This has been discussed previously but no solution found: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20220521114629.6ee9fc06@coco.lan/ There's also a bug open for three years with no solution in sight: https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/pull/8313 So I guess we have no other solution than to a workaround this in the code, for example to rename the function to ieee80211_tx_status_skb() to avoid the name conflict. I got the idea for the name from ieee80211_tx_status_noskb() in which the skb is not provided as an argument, instead with ieee80211_tx_status_skb() the skb is provided. Compile tested only. 2023-09-11wifi: cfg80211: annotate iftype_data pointer with sparseJohannes Berg1-5/+2
There were are a number of cases in mac80211 and iwlwifi (at least) that used the sband->iftype_data pointer directly, instead of using the accessors to find the right array entry to use. Make sparse warn when such a thing is done. To not have a lot of casts, add two helper functions/macros - ieee80211_set_sband_iftype_data() - for_each_sband_iftype_data() Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>
