2025-03-27selftests/ftrace: Add new syntax error testMasami Hiramatsu (Google)1-0/+1
Add BAD_TP_NAME syntax error message check. Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/174055077485.4079315.3624012056141021755.stgit@mhiramat.tok.corp.google.com/ Signed-off-by: Masami Hiramatsu (Google) <mhiramat@kernel.org>
2024-12-26selftests: ftrace: Remove obsolate maxactive syntax checkMasami Hiramatsu (Google)1-3/+1
Since the fprobe event does not support maxactive anymore, stop testing the maxactive syntax error checking. 2024-03-07tracing/probes: Support $argN in return probe (kprobe and fprobe)Masami Hiramatsu (Google)1-0/+4
Support accessing $argN in the return probe events. This will help users to record entry data in function return (exit) event for simplfing the function entry/exit information in one event, and record the result values (e.g. allocated object/initialized object) at function exit. For example, if we have a function `int init_foo(struct foo *obj, int param)` sometimes we want to check how `obj` is initialized. In such case, we can define a new return event like below; # echo 'r init_foo retval=$retval param=$arg2 field1=+0($arg1)' >> kprobe_events Thus it records the function parameter `param` and its result `obj->field1` (the dereference will be done in the function exit timing) value at once. This also support fprobe, BTF args and'$arg*'. So if CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF is enabled, we can trace both function parameters and the return value by following command. # echo 'f target_function%return $arg* $retval' >> dynamic_events Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/170952365552.229804.224112990211602895.stgit@devnote2/ Signed-off-by: Masami Hiramatsu (Google) <mhiramat@kernel.org>
2023-08-23selftests/ftrace: Add BTF fields access testcasesMasami Hiramatsu (Google)1-0/+8
Add test cases for accessing the data structure fields using BTF info. This includes the field access from parameters and retval, and accessing string information. 2023-08-23tracing/fprobe-event: Assume fprobe is a return event by $retvalMasami Hiramatsu (Google)1-1/+1
Assume the fprobe event is a return event if there is $retval is used in the probe's argument without %return. e.g. echo 'f:myevent vfs_read $retval' >> dynamic_events then 'myevent' is a return probe event. 2023-06-06selftests/ftrace: Add BTF arguments test casesMasami Hiramatsu (Google)1-0/+14
Add test cases to check the BTF arguments correctly supported. Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/168507478292.913472.25631899274942311.stgit@mhiramat.roam.corp.google.com/ Signed-off-by: Masami Hiramatsu (Google) <mhiramat@kernel.org>

Add test cases for tracepoint probe events. Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/168507477214.913472.11218388626709005588.stgit@mhiramat.roam.corp.google.com/ Signed-off-by: Masami Hiramatsu (Google) <mhiramat@kernel.org>
2023-06-06selftests/ftrace: Add fprobe related testcasesMasami Hiramatsu (Google)1-0/+97
Add syntax error testcase and add-remove testcase for fprobe events. This ensures that the fprobe events can be added/removed and parser handles syntax errors correctly.
